Welcome to GoshuinGo!

We help you uncover hidden shrines and temples scattered throughout Japan to collect Goshuin.
Get easy access to directions, opening hours, and entry fees for all the places you want to visit.

What are Goshuin?

Goshuin are small works of art that are stamped and signed by monks. Every single one is handmade and unique.

They usually include the name of the shrine, the date, and some other information. Every place has its own design (sometimes even multiple)!

How do I collect them?

Use our app as a guide to explore Japan and find Goshuin. With over 30.000 there are Goshuin to collect anywhere you go!

We have adresses, opening hours, nearby spots to grab a bite and everything else you’ll need to know.

Why would I do this?

By saving all of your Goshuin in a Goshuinchō (special book) you’ll always have a reminder of your trip.

Furthermore, by buying the Goshuin you directly help support the Temples and Shrines and preserve Japan’s history!

Help us preserve history

Japan’s heritage

Japanese temples and shrines are an important part of Japan’s cultural heritage and history. They are sacred places of worship for millions of Japanese people. However, these ancient religious sites are not just important for their religious significance, but also for their architectural, artistic, and historical value.

Many of Japan’s temples and shrines date back hundreds of years and have survived wars, natural disasters, and modernization efforts. However, with the passage of time, they are facing new challenges, such as deterioration due to aging, damage due to natural disasters, and loss of financial support for maintenance.

How you can help

Each Goshuin comes at a small price and this money goes towards preserving Japan’s heritage. Additionally, we encourage you to go and explore. There are so many lesser known temples and shrines to visit and by doing so you will help support local economies.

The landmarks you visit serve as historical and cultural sites that connect Japan’s past and present. By collecting Goshuin and following in the ‘pilgrimage’ dating back hundreds of years you too will become a bridge between past and present.

We are always looking to improve our library. Have you found an unregistered Goshuin, or found the best place to eat nearby? Let us know!

Who Are We

The idea for GoshuinGo originated from our own desire to collect Goshuin. We quickly realized that there was so little information to find on where to collect them, what they looked like, and so on. After talking with other collectors and Japan enthousiasts we started work on our solution.

GoshuinGo is very far from what we’d like it to be. There are so many temples and shrines we still want to add to our database and we still have so many features on our roadmap that will help you with your collection!

What we love about GoshuinGo is the combination of creating this unique and personal souvenir while contributing to Japan’s heritage in a meaningful way. If you also support this cause, consider donating on our Ko-Fi!
